George Jakobi George Jakobi founded the Foundation after five years as an owner/manager of a retail store in Galveston serving birders and other outdoor recreationalists, finding disappointingly few who connected their out-of-door sport to be dependent upon habitat conservation. A common response to the question of “Why not” was a variation of “I want to relax and enjoy this quality time, not think about negative things.” From these conservations the need for an entity to specifically address the impact man was having, even by benign and otherwise nature friendly, became evident, ergo The Good Tern Foundation. George was born in New Your City but raised on the shores of Big Bear Lake in the San Bernardino Mountains of Southern California where he, his horse and dog spent many happy hours in the national forests listening, looking and learning. After a Master’s (The University of Iowa, Arts Marketing, Thesis: "Hi-Brow and Low- Brow Ticket Purchases in Academe.") George has worked as a community organizer; a project director/economic development; a Democrat political Consultant/Campaign Manager; an analyst/ State Energy Management Program; and Marketing and public relations for The Aste Corporation/an Urban Design and Planning firm. He lives with his wife in Galveston. |
