About Us Partners Members Chronological High Points of Naturalism in Art Caring for Nature: What Science and Economics Can't Teach Us but Religion Can Projects:
| The Good Tern Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation dedicated to identifying and supporting artists, scientists, and educators in their efforts to promote better stewardship of the environment. How can artists, scientists and educators engage people in ways that promote better stewardship of the environment? How effective have artists’ interpretations of nature been in changing attitudes and opinions about the natural world? How might we promote significant shifts in attitudes about the environment that affect behavior? More importantly, how might we engage sufficient numbers of people to achieve measurable impact on the environment? TGTF wishes to undertake the activities below to explore existing attitudes about nature and effect positive changes in behavior. Educational ExhibitsTGTF produces nature-related art and educational exhibits that include workshops and other activities to promote environmental awareness and the need for stewardship of natural resources. Art ResidenciesShort term residency programs for visual artists and sculptors focusing on themes associated with nature, environmental awareness, and the relationship between man and the natural world. Classes, workshops, or exhibits will allow the artists an opportunity to explain how nature informs their work. Field WorkBy engaging both the sciences and the arts, field work activities will intertwine scientific and artistic approaches to the natural world and examine how our sense of place, location, and history are made manifest in both art-making and scientific practice. Annual Art SaleAn annual exhibition and sale to benefit TGTF's programs will feature original art on paper (c 10 x 7 inches) in a range of media. In keeping with our interests of access for all, each piece will be priced at $100 and will be sold on a first-come, first-served basis. Each work will be signed on the back so that the artist's identity remains secret until after the sale, thus allowing viewers the pleasure of focusing on the strength of the work itself rather than the creator. Art FairsThree days each year will be devoted to a juried Art Fair. These events are done with collaborating art organizations (galleries, art spaces, museums) where their artists will have an opportunity to interact with art fair attendees. Environmental organizations will promote nature-oriented activities and nature tourism opportunities.
